Yahoo and Google have a deal
By servaas | June 13th, 2008 | Category: Dutch Info Network, Tech Interest | CommentsAfter all this time, I did not believe a deal with Google would come through, but I am relieved about it. Why? I am not a Yahoo fan. But a big portion of the US has used Yahoo for a lot of services and still does so.
Microsoft is not the best candidate for a takeover of Yahoo. MS is too busy pushing people and companies their way, and that is not what the internet is about these days. If you look closely at what MS has done over the past 20 years to get to the top, you know it’s better they don’t get to the top of the internet.
Google on the other hand is a likely candidate. I think the best reason lies in what they’ve done with Youtube: Buying a site that has become so popular on it’s own feet, at a time a huge legal problem could face Youtube, is smart. Google is more like the friendly giant, with money to spend and a good sense of reason.
I am glad it came to this - the vultures that were after the money they could make if MS would have bought the company did not win, at least not their way. They were ready to fire people in order to get what they wanted. Go and be ashamed.
Techcrunch has all the details of this almost historical deal.
