Spore, upgrades and more

Dear reader,

Let’s start this post with good news for gaming enthousiasts, and today especially Spore fans: We now features Spore blognews! We (editors) love spore although we’re not all gaming people, spore is simply fabulous. Click on the big Spore logo on the top right of the page to see the news or select it from the right side under “Games”.

Other editorial news is the successful upgrade of the site to the latest WP patch level, now featuring better performance and other improvements.

Last thing I want to leave you with is this. We (the editors of the Dutch Info Network) are always looking for the best news sources, people who want to contribute and such. Would you like to write for us? We offer nothing in return except decent exposure to the blogosphere. With over 20k visitors a month and growing, you could make some name for yourself! Let us know how we can improve our site, and if you’d like to contribute in any way. We’re open to ideas!

Have a great day,

The Editors

Security and blogging

As blogging has become popular, and wordpress has grown to be the most popular blogging software right now, that piece of software has also become a popular target for hackers. Why? Hackers may (ab)use the popularity of your blog to generate more traffic for other sites they run or manage. In short, they might add code to your wordpress blog that leads your visitors to their websites, and that’s probably not what you want.

A good post about possible malicious code is here: Did your wordpress site get hacked?

Six Apart claims Wordpress is not open source

Six Apart, creator of Movable Type, the blogging platform that *once* dominated the market, claims that Wordpress is not Open Source. Strange, as all Automattic products are open source and licensed under the GPL, wile Six Apart’s products are licensed under several licenses, none of which is GPL or truly open source.
