What could improve the iPhone?
By servaas | April 16th, 2008 | Category: Tech Interest |My number one would be a *real* keyboard, although I fully understand that this would stop iPhone from being, err, iPhone. So let’s move to number two. What would my number two be? VOIP. Who just did it? Fring. Who?
Fring is a very clever piece of software that allows your phone to make use of VOIP (yes, SIP based goodieness), several chat protocols and more. Today it is totally true. FRING is now able to run on iPhone.
Using the native app, it’s now possible to place and receive calls via your WiFi connection, thus making AT&T CEOs cry like little babies. Besides doing Skype and the like, the app also lets you connect for chats via MSN Messenger, ICQ, GTalk, SIP, Twitter, AIM, and Yahoo!, which should make this an attractive package even if you don’t want to harness the raw power of IP telephony.

I have used FRING on a nokia E61 before, and I was impressed. Sure FRING wasn’t perfect but it was prety cool. There were issues with the chat functions, but the VOIP stuff worked like a charm!
