Is RIMs Blackberry 9000 an iPhone killer?
By servaas | April 28th, 2008 | Category: Dutch Info Network |Certain rumors claim that the annouced blackberry 9000 could me marketed as an iPhone killer. Personally, I don’t think that one can really compare blackberry’s and iPhones - it is more like comparing apples and bananas. Why? First of all, look at the targeted audience. Blackberry’s are marketed towards business users. Although Apple claims otherwise, iPhones are not targeted towards business users, although one can use an iPhone for business purposes.
Besides this we can look at features in to compare the two ubergadgets. The biggest differences are the operating system and user interface. Where blackberry uses a javabased operating system, iPhone runs OSX (unix with a great interface, basically). Where blackberry’s are great for email and messaging, iPhone has a slick touch screen interface. In other words, the two are simply too different from each other.
All that being said, I do believe that the upcoming berry 9000 is very exciting, as it is rumored to have a touchscreen (I hope the fixed keyboard will still be there though, the images show a hardware keyboard) and will probably have all the extras that berry’s never had: a camera, music player and all that. Decent Apple support would also be nice, hehehe.
So will a berry kill an iPhone? I think not. I believe that the two will live together peacefully.
The NewYork times has a big piece on the subject: link.
