Are pda’s merging with laptops now?
By servaas | March 20th, 2008 | Category: Tech Interest |We’ve seen the current trend in smartphones getting a keyboard and more pda type functionality, and we’ve seen phones getting gps for navigation functionality. But HTC wants to take it a step further with the upcoming Shift: This is a laptop wannabe.
The device is set to cost around $1500, while it’s around $1100 in europe. That’s strange, but I am wondering about something else: Who wants to be seen with this thing? At $1100, you can have a sweet macbook with extra’s, which isn’t a phone but at least it has a full keyboard, a fast and big harddrive and, very important, a screen that has normal proportions.
Are people really going to spend this kind of money on a device that isn’t a phone, neither a computer but pretends to be both? You have to understand, a laptop and a cellphone can’t really mix. They differ too much. If you mix it this is what you get:
-a phone with terrible laptop capabilities
-an enormous cellphone
Give it up.
