Tomtom’s GO 720
By dutchclick | September 4th, 2007 | Category: navigation |Engadget recently roadtested the Tomtom Go 720 navigation unit. I am pretty excited, since I own the predecessor to this device (also called Go 710) and I am thinking about getting the 720. The 710 is a great device. The ease of use of the menus, which I already knew from the Tomtom application I used to run on my Palm Treo 650, and the extra’s you get make the device fabulous.
In general Tomtom is simply the best on the market. So it’s all about the extra’s, like auto dimming of the screen when you enter a tunnel or at nightfall, adaption of the volume to the level of noise in your vehicle, the TMC antenna which works great after and update of the software (early this year Tomtom improved it’s functionality), the batterylife and so on and so on. The only thing I don’t like about the 710 is it’s size, and I am so jealous of the newer, slimmer models…..
TomTom has been blazing an increasingly popular path (no pun intended) in the GPS world for some time now, and it’s easy to see why. The GO 720 is a smartly designed, simple to understand, and feature-rich navigation tool which could appeal as easily to gadget-mavens as much as it would to families needing some guidance for roadtrips. At the $499 price point, it should be able to garner both those crowds. (Engadget)
