SIM card with builtin GPS
By dutchclick | July 2nd, 2007 | Category: Dutch Info Network |This is no new news, but to me it is, to be very honest. Okay, it slipped my mind, but René did put it back…
European company BlueSky Positioning is a newcomer to the GPS market and is presenting a GSM SIM-card:
A-GPS SIM, is the world’s first Assisted-GPS module for SIM cards. Together with GSM or 3G phones, it forms a complete network assisted GPS receiver capable of locating the handset quickly and accurately.
The SIM card not only includes the gps module, but the antenna is build in too!
This would be the solution for the iPhone right now, but the SIM card is not at the market yet. The first sample version would have been presented yet, but with this sort of innovative products, you can wait at least a few months more.
German navigation site Pocketnavigation had some ideas (German only) about it in may already. The editors were surprised and for all sceptic about the power use of the card. With 6mA it lies quite under 40-80mA of an average bluetooth gps device. It would be a little wonder.
Show me the A-GPS SIM!
